What Is The 13 Elementals ?
The 13 Elementals is a fantasy action comic with an emphasis on fun characters, sharp dialogue, unique powers, and layered worldbuilding.
Launched in 2023 as the passion project of an independent creator, the webcomic has been releasing new chapters and content every month.​
What are the biggest inspirations for The 13 Elementals ?
Avatar: The Last Airbender (by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko), for its perfect blend of Eastern+Western art styles and storytelling. I strive for the same balance in my work. Oh, and the Elements. Duh.

One Piece (by Eiichiro Oda), for its worldbuilding, power system, and unique characters. I aspire to create a universe as appealing and realized.
​
Saga (by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples), for its pacing, and the central conflict that drives the plot. I want the same page turning appeal in my own story.

Naruto (by Masashi Kishimoto), for its fight scenes and character designs. It was a formative work of fiction
for me, and I'd like my webcomic
to be similar. Oh, and the eyes. You'll see.

One-Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 (by ONE), for showing that an independent webcomic can become a great animated show (scroll to the final question on this page). Helps that they're both brilliant deconstructions of well-established genres.

Who is the Main Character?
Aero is the protagonist of the webcomic series The 13 Elementals. He is the son of Gale, an Air Mage from the Mage City, and Kazmir, a Human swordsman.
​
Alongside his parents and his sister Falon, Aero is dedicated to overthrowing the oppressive Mage Village, while also learning about his new powers.
Humans & mages & hybrids, Oh my!
That wasn't a question. Where did you learn to write?

Humans: you're probs one of these! They have many offspring and accomplish much, despite their short lifespans. While lacking any supernatural powers, they compensate with strength in numbers, perseverance,
and tenacity.
​
Mages: Humans who are born with extra organs that allow them to use Magik. Long lived, few offspring. Many consider themselves to be a superior people, and look down on Humans as a subspecies.
​
Hybrids: the children of a Human and a Mage. While very few can use Magik, some can learn Faunakinesis. Many are the victims of severe discrimination. Their lifespans and amount of offspring vary dramatically.
What is the Mage City?
One of three Enclaves, the City is the birthplace of Aero and his family. They are a communal culture subsisting together on a floating island. Individualism is a societal expectation. There is some discrimination, but overall the City is tolerant of Hybrids.
What is the Mage Village?
A despotic Enclave, lethally enforcing segregation between Humans and Mages. They are a conformist culture that follows The Old Ways: a meritocracy based on one's own combat ability. Human slaves and Hybrid experiments are considered justified by nature.

Spending tens of thousands of hours making a zero profit free independent webcomic?
...Huh. Maybe we shoulda started with this question.

The 13 Elementals feels like a story I need to tell. I've had it in my head since I was 12 years old. Over many years, I mapped out the entire plot, from the first scene to the final moment.
The art is amateur (I have no training as an artist), but I truly believe in the story and the characters. In the words of James Rolfe: "Passion always comes through, in spite of limitations."

100% of the webcomic is written and drawn by one person (me). Every single panel is meticulously hand drawn with paper and pencil, then scanned and uploaded to my site.
My dream is that Elementals gets an audience, and as many people read it as possible. My pipe dream is that it becomes an animated show in 15-20 years. Together, we can make this happen.
The odds are astronomically stacked against us, but I'm not giving up. I will keep writing and drawing until life stops me.
